A construction contractor in the United States said the Pentagon’s building materials and construction equipment plant is now in “advanced development,” as construction of the massive facility near Fort Meade, Maryland, continues apace.

The National Security Council’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) on Thursday reported that the contractor is building a 1.6-million-square-foot facility to replace the National Security Complex in Arlington, Virginia.

The building is scheduled to open in 2019.

The OCO report said that the facility will replace the former Pentagon Command Center, which closed in December after more than 10 years of construction and maintenance.
